[Group] History of Johnny Cakes- Winter
From kernel to cake, learn the full history of Johnny Cakes.
Service Description
Jolly's Mill Pond's gristmill produced cornmeal and flour for over 100 years. Johnny Cakes were created centuries ago by Native Americans. So, how many Johnny Cakes do you think were created from our cornmeal? This group class is a great, teambuilding break from the office. In two hours, we'll explore Johnny Cakes' Native American roots, how they were enhanced by enslaved Africans, and later became one of George Washington’s favorite treats. Your team will also learn about: - How the Chickahominy tribe prepared them, - Corn varieties used in our foodway to make them, - How corn was milled, - A modern Johnny Cakes recipe, and more! This Group Class is for 10 people. To book a class for a larger group, contact us at 757-741-8663 or email visit@jollysmillpond.com
